INTRODUCTION
The 3rd annual Wind River Photographer's Retreat has a new location and new dates. Located adjacent to the scenic Wind River and framed by the wild Wind River Mountains to the south and the distinctive Absaroka Range to the north, the timeless cowboy town of Dubois, Wyoming is rich in history and overflowing with photographic opportunities.
The National Bighorn Sheep Center is offering a truly new and unique nature photography workshop characteristic of the old west where participants will experience some of the best the area has to offer. From geologic panoramas and sculpted pinnacles to the iconic wildlife and working cowboy, this adventure, led by nature photographers Sandy Zelasko and Bill Sincavage, is designed for all level of photo enthusiasts.

An unprecedented offer to experience the rustic Wyoming Game & Fish Summer Conservation Camp facilities, grow your photographic skills and interact with like-minded photographers. This week long, all inclusive retreat includes morning and evening field instruction, all meals and lodging plus so much more.

WORKSHOP ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrive at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp by 3:00 PM Monday evening for a country welcome, speakers, delicious dinner and live music entertainment. We'll be reviewing the photography schedule for the week and getting to know our fellow photographers.
Day 2: Tuesday morning we are out the door for our first photo session together. Humbling mountain terrain awaits us and we will take an intimate look at the flora, fauna and surrounding grand landscapes. Breakfast will be served in the field.
Midday lunch will be back at camp. Afterwards Bill and Sandy will discuss post-processing techniques.
A mouth-watering dinner awaits then your evening photo shoot will be high up on Torrey Rim to capture the sunset and cowgirl silhouettes. An astronomy presentation will follow with an optional night sky photo shoot following.
Day 3: Wednesday promises another early morning in the backcountry with beautiful mountain scenes. Wildlife and picturesque flora is on the agenda. Breakfast will be served in the field. A quick trip to the National Bighorn Sheep Center will end our morning.
Lunch at camp then Portfolio Reviews with your choice of either Bill or Sandy will wrap up the afternoon.
A delicious dinner will be served then we are off on a short hike to Torrey Falls, views of Torrey Valley and flora and fauna of the area.
Day 4: Thursday morning will be an optional sunrise photo shoot in Torrey Valley then a sit-down breakfast in the dining hall. Afterwards we will gather for the Mountain Man photo shoot with model Joe Brandl in authentic dress and tools of the period. Model release will be provided.
After lunch we will wrap up Portfolio reviews.
Dinner and dessert will satisfy a hungry appetite. Then get ready for our cowboy shoot at the world famous CM Ranch. Horse and hoofs, cowboys and color. An evening full of action!
NOTE: Make sure to use your time wisely and prepare images from your workshop to share at the (optional) Participant Presentations Friday afternoon.
Day 5: Friday morning we'll enjoy a sit-down breakfast with all the fixins. Then we are off to Ring Lake and Torrey Valley Petroglyph site to photograph well preserved Mountain Shoshone Tribal art specific to the Wind River area.
After lunch is reserved for Participant Presentation, six of your best images from the week shown in a slide program for all to celebrate.
We'll enjoy our final dinner together before heading to the iconic Dubois Rodeo to capture more of that western culture and practice the skills you've mastered this past week.
Day 6: A late breakfast at camp will finish out the week and participants will prepare to depart the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp by 11:00 am.
Please note that this schedule is tentative. All events are subject to change in the event of inclement weather, wildlife sightings and/or other unforeseen circumstances. There is a very slight chance of photographing Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep this time of year. The sheep are high in the mountains away from predators and people.
You are responsible for transportation to and from Dubois, WY. You can reserve and pick up a rental car at the Jackson Hole Airport if you are flying in for the workshop. Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is a convenient airport approximately two hours west of Dubois. Book early if you need transportation beyond what is included in this workshop.
Dubois, WY is a small town with a grocery store, fuel (unleaded & diesel), lodging and a few eateries. Click HERE for a map.
